The sales KPIs that actually boost sales.
Most sales teams measure plenty and change little. These are the six numbers we install with US and South African clients — what each one means, and the specific play that lifts it when it slips.
Six KPIs, one corrective play each.
A KPI is only useful if a drop tells you what to do next. Each metric below comes paired with the fix we run inside the AAA Framework.
Close ratio
How to calculate
Closed-won deals ÷ qualified opportunities
The fix
Rebuild the discovery stage and the objection library. Most close-ratio problems are qualification problems.
Sales cycle length
How to calculate
Average days from first qualified conversation to signed
The fix
Remove dead stages, set exit criteria per stage, and agree next steps in-call rather than after it.
Revenue per rep
How to calculate
Closed revenue ÷ number of quota-carrying reps
The fix
Coach the middle of the team, not the top. A 10% lift across five average reps beats one new hire.
Pipeline coverage
How to calculate
Open pipeline value ÷ quota for the period
The fix
Below 3x means the problem is top-of-funnel, not closing. Fix activity and lead quality first.
Lead response time
How to calculate
Minutes between inbound enquiry and first human contact
The fix
Route and alert automatically. Speed-to-lead is the cheapest sales boost available to most teams.
Activity-to-outcome ratio
How to calculate
Calls, demos, and proposals required per closed deal
The fix
Track by rep to separate an effort problem from a skill problem — the coaching differs completely.
Measurement only helps when it changes behaviour.
We install KPI frameworks that reps actually use — a short scoreboard, a weekly rhythm, and a named play for every number that moves the wrong way.
Pick five KPIs, not twenty — a scoreboard nobody reads changes nothing.
Review the numbers weekly with the team, monthly with leadership, quarterly against strategy.
Tie every KPI to one owner and one corrective play.
Use AI for call analysis and follow-up so reps spend more hours in front of buyers.
Benchmark against your own last quarter before you benchmark against the industry.
Want your numbers benchmarked?
Request a Sales Audit and we'll baseline your close ratio, cycle length, and revenue per rep — then show you the fastest lift.
The 21-Point Sales Engine Checklist
Score your own sales engine across Audit, Analyze, and Action in about five minutes. Every box you can't tick is revenue leaking out of your funnel.
